Dr. Szabolcs Béni studied pharmacy at Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary, where he graduated in 2003 and obtained his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2007. He was a visiting scientist at the University of California Riverside in 2009-2010.

Currently, he is the vice dean, associate professor, and head of the department at Semmelweis University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacognosy. His research interests cover various subjects of analytical chemistry, especially that of the analysis of carbohydrates.

Analytical method developments for the characterization of cyclodextrins, milk oligosaccharides, and glycosaminoglycans are in the focus of his interest. NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and various separation techniques are in his toolbox to tackle the issues raised by chemists and biologists for carbohydrate characterization to advance the understanding of their functions.

He is an active member of the NMR Discussion Group and the Organic- and Drug-Analysis Discussion Group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
